You don’t need anybody to tell you

imageYou don’t need anybody to tell you
To tell you you’re you
To tell you the melanin on your skin is a burden to some
A burden to those who’s retrenched souls cannot fathom beauty
A beauty you posses despite the patriarchy we drown in
A beauty of heart and strength with a history spanning over millennia
Millennia and our brothers still feel we’re the lesser gender
But forget that, forge on
Forge your own path, unravel your weaknesses so they may ignite your strengths
You don’t need anybody to tell you you’re you
A you that is tender and affectionate
But no doormat
A hardworking you that is not owed charity by no one
Embrace your fellow sister
Cover her nakedness and extinguish any shame brought onto her by the world
You don’t need anybody to tell you
To tell you, you inspire me
To never stop narrating my own story
You don’t need anybody to tell you
To tell you you’re you
